Robusta is a variety characterised by a very intense flavour but a delicate aroma. Arabica, on the other hand, is a mild-tasting but strongly aromatic coffee. If you’re looking for coffee to brew under pressure, opt for a Robusta blend and you’ll get a wonderful crema on your daily espresso. Liberian coffee, known as Liberica, has a slightly bitter taste and is recommended for dessert drinks and cappuccino.

A robust, invigorating dose of caffeine

Robusta coffee (Congo coffee) is a variety native to the African continent. Today, it is also grown on plantations in other parts of the world characterised by a warm climate conducive to cultivation. Congo coffee bushes are resistant to pests and diseases, and the plant itself grows quickly and bears fruit early. Robusta beans provide a high caffeine content, as well as an attractive creamy foam on the surface of the brewed drink. This is why they are often recommended for blends used in espresso machines and for instant coffees. An interesting fact worth noting is the shape of the crack in Robusta beans, which resembles the letter ‘I’. Strong and bitter Robusta has a sharper flavour than the popular Arabica.

Arabica: coffee with a diverse range of flavours

Arabica coffee, or the famous Arabica variety, is a type of African crop that flowers and bears fruit almost all year round. The best conditions for growing coffee bushes are found in the intertropical zone. The beans have a characteristic ‘S’-shaped crack. This coffee has a mild, sweetish flavour and a low caffeine content. You’ll find many varieties of Arabica on the market, including those with chocolate, fruity or nutty flavours, and even a hint of cognac. It’s a coffee that’s perfect not only for delicious drinks like lattes, macchiatos and cappuccinos, but also for coffee-based desserts.

Why is it worth drinking freshly roasted coffee?

Coffee drinks boost energy levels, improve blood circulation and also have a positive effect on mood. This is due to an increase in the production of serotonin, also known as the ‘happiness hormone’. Coffee also speeds up the metabolism, thereby aiding weight loss. What else can we find in coffee beans? Antioxidants, which protect the body from harmful toxins, help eliminate them and, according to scientists, prevent certain types of cancer. The levels of these valuable substances increase during the roasting process.
